Welcome to Guinea Pig Breeder Relay
Service, referred to as GPBR.
GPBR is a not-for-profit volunteer
operation that is instated to help all cavy breeders
move and sell their stock, free of shipping charges,
at any time of the year, and with reduced shipping
stress to stock.
How does it work?
Guinea Pig Breeder
Relay, or "GPBR", is a volunteer-run
operation. GPBR works to assist breeders and
buyers wishing to transfer guinea pigs across state
lines, through the use of volunteer drivers, and
without shipping costs. GPBR functions in "four-state"
relay groups comprised of individuals who sign up as
volunteer drivers to move stock to other states.
What's
in it for you?
Nothing. GPBR
wants to see other breeders be able to transfer stock
at any time without having to wait for local and out
of state shows.
"GPBR
operates on a service-for-service
approach, based on an honor system that asks each
person for whom stock is run to reciprocate with a
run for another. Each volunteer signing with GPBR is
asked to perform one run for each
run GPBR performs for the volunteer. "
In other words,
GPBR will ask you to return the favor at some point,
but we do make a concerted effort to allow for your
scheduling. If you "run" a guinea pig for
someone else, we owe YOU a run, and vice versa.
So,
can I only move stock to another breeder, or only
move show stock?
No. At this time,
GPBR is allowing all stock to transfer. If you have
pet, breeding, or show stock, you can use GPBR.
How
far do you expect me to go?
GPBR receives your
city address, and inputs it into our database. This
is how we know when to call on you for a run. You can
drive as few as 20 miles, or as far as 300. To be
able to sign on, we ask a minimum of a 20-mile run.
The maximum, however, is up to you.
What
if the animals get stressed, ill or worse, while I am
driving?
All signers with
GPBR, both shippers and runners, understand the risks
they take, and agree to hold no one liable for
accidents with the exception of GROSS negligence.
GPBR is comprised by individuals who care about their
own stock, and respect the stock of others. All cavy
relay runners are screened and the list is moderated,
allowing GPBR officers to retain control over who
joins. Although accidents can and DO happen, they are
less likely to occur when caring people aid in the
travel of stock as opposed to airlines or shipping
companies.
Please read the
following excerpt from our sign-on form. This is a
binding document. To sign on as a runner or receiver,
this form must be filled out and signed.
